HISTORY

Our aim in History is to give pupils a lively and enquiring approach to the past. Emphasis is placed on the concepts of change and continuity, cause and consequence, similarity and difference,
as well as on the development of skills in the research, selection and interpretation of material. Importance is placed upon the pupils acquiring a detailed knowledge and understanding of the
people and the events of the period studied.

In Year 5, work focuses on the ‘The Victorians’ and ‘Britain and the Wider World in Tudor Times’. The work in Year 6 centres around ‘The Civilisations of
Ancient Egypt and Ancient Greece’.

Wherever possible, local history is referred to and placed in the context of the major topics. Where appropriate, visits are also made to places of interest, to provide a stimulus, or as an extension of the work done in school.
